Company Name: Tepsa
Location: Bilbao, Spain
Coating Used: Mascoat Industrial-DTI
Thickness: 60 mils (1.5 mm)
Reason for application: Thermal insulation, personnel protection and Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
After an initial meeting with Mascoat representatives from the Holland office, officials at Tepsa’s Bilbao facility were interested in coating one of their biodiesel storage tanks with Mascoat Industrial-DTI. Before application, the client requested a thermal analysis from Mascoat’s engineering department to tell them what the likely outcome of the project would be, including energy savings and surface temperature.
To keep the contents around a constant 104˚F (40˚C), Mascoat recommended to apply 60 mils (1.5 mm) of DTI to the roof and outer walls. Unlike conventional insulation, DTI will stand up to foot traffic on the roof. Most conventional insulation will degrade and fall apart quickly after repeated foot traffic, which is why most storage tank roofs remain without insulation.
After application, the client has reported that the coating is working as was predicted and has decided to coat many other tanks within the facility with Mascoat Industrial-DTI.
